A Purple Fairytale

It's been over three years since we found out that the little Goober growing inside of me was a sweet baby girl.

Oh how I adore that Sweet Baby Girl.

Once we found out for sure (I already had the mother's intuition thing going on but it was nice to have it confirmed!), I found myself drawn to the color purple. It was a favorite color when I was little. Maybe it's because it is the color of royalty, I don't know, but I associate it with princesses in fairytales.

Then I find out I'm having my own princess and suddenly I'm seeing purple everywhere!

Now I have my Marie Love and purple is not her color! She's still my princess, but a good solid pink mixed with Adidas stripes is much more her thing.

I'm okay. I'm over it.

But when I created these earrings, it brought me back to those early days. And they remind me that I am so blessed to have my very own princess.

Just keep running...

Right after Jack was born, I told Derek that I wanted to run a half marathon before having another little goober. Lo and behold, The Crossing is participating in a half-marathon on September 17.

*Insert foot in mouth*

So right now is the "pre-training" time. We have to be able to somewhat comfortably run a 5k by July 26. I can do that. It's the 13.1 miles that make me a little nervous.

Derek and I are going to run it together, but his schedule and our having 2 babies doesn't allow for us to train together. That's where you come in!

There are multiple ways for you to participate simply because you love me!

1. Be one of those seriously irritating people who makes me feel really guilty every time I miss a training day. I won't like you much for the next 4 months, but I'll love you after it's all over!

2. PRAY for me. I couldn't even consider this whole endeavor without loads prayer!

3. Run with me!
  • We could just be in touch every day to keep each other accountable
  • We could find a couple times a week to run together
  • We could trade babysitting and take turns running
  • Or all of the above!
  • And then we'll start the race together, cheer each other on, and celebrate together after!
4. Donate a new pair of running shoes to the cause :)

Another goal of this venture is to be 30 lbs lighter by the time I cross the finish line. It will make it a lot easier to cross the finish line! And I only have one more opportunity for a vbac. I have to know that I have big babies because God made me that way, not because I gain too much weight.

Thank you in advance for all your support! I'll keep you all updated on this crazy adventure!

I'm hesitating to post this because I know that once it's out in blog-o-sphere, I will have to do it. Irritating people will make me.

Oh I hope I don't regret this...

Happy Mother's Day!

So last night I was giving myself a pity party. Honestly, as I sit here typing this up, I'm still not completely over it. But something did occur to me while I was snuggling my little man and playing with my baby girl's freshly washed hair:

While being a mom is probably the most overworked/underpaid job ever in the history of the world, I think it is the most rewarding job ever in the history of the world.

I think Mother's Day is the greatest Hallmark day ever created and that we should have it once a week at least. But I don't need to be pampered. I don't need gifts. I don't need me time to feel blessed on Mother's Day. Oh, I certainly want those things. But God blessed me with two beyond precious babies. He put them in my care for just a short time. All I need is to appreciate that and cherish every moment.

I have everything I need for Mother's Day in those little babies.

Thank You, Abba.

Wow, my pity party has just been crashed.

Now for a little change of pace. I crafted for Mother's Day this year! I guess I've finally spent enough time in blogland to start coming up with my own crafty ideas (which are definitely culminations of all the ideas I've seen out there!)

This is for Mom Jacobs:

This was so much fun to do with both kids. Marie decorated the "pot" completely on her own! I was so impressed with the circles!

This is for Momma Johnson:

This was mostly me but Marie had a great time getting her hands traced and crafting her own things next to me!

And I made this card. I would have made one for my MIL but my last-minute way of life didn't allow for it!

One of the greatest things about being a jewelry creator...

This post is getting super long but I can't end this without gushing about my moms.

--I'm so ridiculously blessed to have two amazing moms. One of them raised my other half. The other survived (and even thrived in!) the chaos that is me. I love you both so very much. I'm so glad that I get to call you "Mom" and my babies get to call you "HoneyGram" and "Maw-Maw."--

What did you do/make for your momma?

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Kite Kraziness

Daddy Draft

Last Saturday our family went to the Kite Festival in Shipshewanna, IN. It was a brisk windy day, almost as if God had said, "Oh, a Kite Festival! Here ya go." and blew the winds over for us to enjoy our kites. All of the kids were able to build their own kite and then go fly them outside. Marie did a great job helping to build her kite, and I love the colors that she chose. I took video of the whole experience and kept emailing them to my family, all while carrying Jack on my back.

Just for the record, if you have never flown a kite before, you're missing out.

Here is the video of Marie flying the kite that she built. If you want to see more videos from that day you can view all my videos on YouTube by searching for my username: djacobs2311.

Gardens

This year (as I mentioned here) we're attempting a vegetable garden.
  • Potatoes
  • Onions
  • Peppers
  • Corn
  • Beans
Honestly, I'm very nervous about this endeavor. Call me Mrs. Brown Thumb. And besides that, will I be disciplined enough to keep up with it?

I hope so, because I'm very excited to eat veggies from my very own garden! I love the idea of growing my own food! (I also want to learn to sew and improve on my crocheting! One thing at a time).

We'll see how it all goes. God's the one who actually does the growing so we're in it together. I'll keep ya updated.

Meanwhile, check out this bracelet...

I love it because it's like wearing a garden on your wrist and it requires absolutely NO maintenance! That's my kind of garden. It's called "Flower Garden Bracelet" because the green beads are speckled with flowers. I'm much more concerned about growing veggies than flowers. Again, one thing at a time! So this bracelet fills any kind of flower garden hole in my life.

Even if you're not into gardening (like me last spring... and every spring before that), this bracelet will welcome in the springtime which brings a smile to every face!

Love on spring. Buy the hand-formed Flower Garden Bracelet here for $10.
